The history of the Palace is deeply linked to that of Ofena, an ancient village in Abruzzo known for its medieval roots and traditions. Right here, in the place where the palace stands today — subject to renovations over the centuries — Gabriele D’Annunzio drew inspiration for one of his most famous short stories (“The Death of the Duke of Ofena” written in 1897). A unique context, where architecture, memory and landscape blend together in one of the most fascinating and significant homes in inland Abruzzo.
Ofena is a small municipality in Abruzzo with about 500 inhabitants in the province of L’Aquila at 530 meters above sea level, within the Gran Sasso National Park. Most of its territory is characterized by climatic and altimetric conditions favorable to agricultural activity; of particular note is the production of refined wines and fine olive oil. The old town is a fortified medieval village with the characteristic tall houses placed side by side for defensive purposes. There are several important Palaces, ancient Churches and Convents of interest. In the town area there are only a few shops, restaurants and essential services (Municipal Offices, Post Office, Pharmacy, …). Bus connections with nearby towns; Motorways and Railway Stations about 20 ‘. The city of L’Aquila is half an hour away by car, Pescara with the International Airport and the beaches of the Adriatic Sea 60′, Rome 90’.

Antico Palazzo ristrutturato e abitabile nel Centro Storico.
Antico Palazzo Baronale nel Centro Storico, caratterizzato da elementi rinascimentali ed affreschi che decorano soffitti ed alcune pareti. Il Palazzo è articolato su vari livelli per un totale di oltre 600 mq con 7 camere da letto e 4 bagni, saloni, 2 cucine, magazzini, ecc… , è ottimamente conservato grazie ai regolari restauri, fino agli ultimi lavori conclusi nel 2021 che hanno previsto la messa in sicurezza ed anche il totale rifacimento del tetto in legno.
Affacciato sulla piazza principale del paese, questo Palazzo si distingue per il suo pregevole portale in pietra, sormontato da uno stemma nobiliare che ne testimonia l’antico prestigio. Il portone, in legno massiccio con battenti in ferro a forma di testa di leone, è incorniciato da una raffinata lavorazione in pietra e da un elegante sopraluce a ventaglio in ferro battuto.
All’interno si succedono numerose stanze con pregevoli arredi e si possono ammirare tre antichi ed imponenti camini di marmo e pietra. E’ stata realizzata anche un’area fitness attrezzata (palestra), pensata per offrire ulteriore comfort e benessere a chi vive o soggiorna nel palazzo.
All’esterno, un ampio e soleggiato cortile con un antico pozzo in pietra rappresenta uno spazio ideale per momenti di relax e convivialità all’aperto.
Dall’attico, un’ampia vetrata panoramica offre una vista mozzafiato sulla Valle del Tirino, regalando scorci indimenticabili in ogni stagione.
Grazie alla sua ampia metratura, alla qualità degli spazi interni e alla cura nella conservazione storica, il palazzo rappresenta una soluzione ideale sia come abitazione privata di prestigio che come residenza ricettiva di charme. Il Palazzo è subito abitabile, raggiungibile in auto e con possibilità di parcheggio nei pressi. Ofena è un piccolo Comune in Abruzzo di circa 500 abitanti in provincia di L’Aquila a 530 s.l.m, all’interno del Parco Nazionale del Gran Sasso. La maggior parte del suo territorio è caratterizzato da condizioni climatiche e altimetriche favorevoli all’attività agricola; di particolare rilievo è la produzione di raffinati vini e di pregiato olio di oliva. Il paese antico è un borgo medievale fortificato con le caratteristiche alte case affiancate a fini difensivi. Presenti diversi importanti Palazzi, antiche Chiese e Conventi di interesse. Nel territorio del paese si trova solo qualche negozio, ristoranti ed i servizi essenziali (Uffici Comunali, Posta, Farmacia,…). Collegamenti autobus con i Centri vicini; Autostrade e Stazioni Ferroviarie a circa 20’. La città dell’ Aquila è a mezza ora di auto, Pescara con l’Aeroporto Internazionale e le spiagge del Mare Adriatico a 60’, Roma a 90’.
